Abstract
Micro and small-sized enterprise (MSEs) are struggling for survival in most countries despite their basic importance for the local economy and society. They have been urged to regenerate sustainable development for survival. In this paper, we focus on the local economi, which is fundamental for the sustainable local communinity, based on its own history, tradition, culture, and environment. MSEs are their core. We made use of empirical insights from the research in some cases in Japan and Indonesia. The paper is structured by two levels, one is theoretical, and the other is empirical nsights derived from both countries.
