Abstract

The SYMSITES project, funded under GA number 101058426, focuses on the development and implementation of Industrial Urban Symbiosis (IUS) concepts to promote sustainable resource management and circular economy principles. Through the design, construction, and operation of innovative wastewater treatment systems, including Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors (AnMBR), tertiary treatment processes, and pyrolysis systems, the project aims to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of integrated approaches for wastewater treatment and resource recovery. This paper provides an in-depth exploration of the SYMSITES project, highlighting its significance in advancing sustainable resource management through Industrial Urban Symbiosis
